Philip Hughes, Chairman

A leader in Canada’s energy sector for the past 25 years, Philip Hughes has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of five energy companies across Canada. He has extensive North American and international experience in electrical generation, transmission and distribution, oil and gas and natural gas transmission, distribution and processing. Currently, he serves as Chairman of Oceanic Wind Energy Inc. and is also on the Board of Instream Energy.

Philip was a senior executive with the Fortis Inc. group of companies where he was responsible for various acquisitions (including the successful acquisition and integration of Aquila Networks Canada) and led the operations as President and CEO of several of the Fortis Inc. subsidiaries.

Philip is a past Officer of the World Energy Council (WEC), former Chair of the Canadian Electrical Association (CEA) and former Chair of the Energy Council of Canada (ECC). He holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.Economics) from Lancaster University, England and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta and a Fellow of the Chartered Accountants of England and Wales.

Tim was the founder, President and CEO of TWC Financial Corporation, an independent mutual fund distributor licensed in Canada with approximately 400 financial advisors and over $4 billion in assets under administration. In 2003, the TWC Group of Companies was acquired by the Berkshire Group to form a mutual fund and securities dealership with more than 1,000 financial advisors and $10 billion in assets under administration. Tim served as a Board Director of the newly amalgamated firm until January 2008 when Manulife Securities Inc acquired the firm.

Tim received the designation ICD.cd from the prestigious Institute of Corporate Directors, Rotman School of Business, University of Toronto in 2009. Currently Tim is serving on four boards – Chairman, Saskatchewan Pension Plan, Director, Stone Investment Group, Director, Wordjack Media Inc. and Director, Kineticor Renewables Inc.

James P. Baker, Director

Mr. Baker is President of JP Baker Management Inc. He has over 30 years experience in the oil and gas industry, as a senior officer of three different oil and natural gas companies and more recently as a director of several public companies. During that time he also ran a private consulting business specializing in oil and gas related issues particularly in the business development area.

Jim has served on numerous industry boards and also sits on the Board of SaskEnergy. In addition, he has been active in CAPP (Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers) and SEPAC (Small Explorers and Producers Association of Canada) and was past Chairman of the IPAC (CAPP predecessor) Saskatchewan Committee.

Andrew Plaunt, CEO

Andrew has extensive experience in the successful origination, development, operation, and ultimate sale of multiple companies across Western Canada. Most recently, Andrew was the founder and CEO of Kineticor Renewables, a Wind Energy Development company established in 2009 focused on developing mid-sized power generation assets across the Prairies.

Andrew led the financing, development, negotiations and management of Kineticor which led to Kineticor successfully securing multiple Power Purchase Agreements with SaskPower. In 2011, Andrew led the sale of the all of Kineticor Renewables assets to Algonquin Power.

Andrew is a graduate of Mount Royal College where he obtained his degree in Entrepreneurship.

Michael Funk, President

Michael Funk is the President of Kineticor Resource Corp. Previous to his role as President, Michael served as the Company’s Chief Financial Officer for over 8 years, where he was instrumental in overseeing the early development, and leading the financing initiatives required to fund the $1.5 billion Cascade Power Project. In addition to this, Michael worked on the acquisition, development, and overall successful disposition of the Company’s Three Creeks Power Project, along with the acquisition and financing of the Pipestone Power Project, which is currently in commercial operations.

Prior to founding Kineticor, Michael’s experience consisted of varying roles within the finance and accounting industries having worked at both RBC and BDO Canada with a focus in audit and tax functions for both private enterprise and public entities.

Michael obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 2008 and earned his finance degree from the University of Alabama where he played Division I NCAA hockey.

Raymond McKay, Executive Vice President, Development & Operations

Raymond McKay has thirty-six years of experience in the power industry, including the development, construction, and operations of thermal and renewable energy facilities. Raymond has led over $3 billion of successful acquisitions and greenfield development projects.

Prior to joining Kineticor, Raymond was President and principal consultant for RVM Developers Inc., providing commercial and development services to the power sector. Prior to that, Raymond was VP of Business Development for ENMAX, developing and acquiring of over 2100 MW of generation, including the acquisition of the Calgary Energy Centre, the development of the Taber Windfarm, and the 860 MW Shepard Energy Centre.

Raymond holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the Technical University of Nova Scotia and an MBA from Queen’s University.

Gordon MacNeil, Vice President, Engineering & Construction

Gordon is a registered Professional Engineer with over 30 years of experience in the construction of major infrastructure projects around the globe . Having worked for both owners and the EPC contractors, Gord is proficient in both the technical and commercial aspects required for executing a successful construction project. Having started his career as an engineer with Nova Scotia Power, Gord has worked for numerous organizations in leadership roles which have included Mitsui & Co Ltd. and Enmax Energy Corporation.

Kate Moore, Vice President, ESG & Commercial

Kate Moore has over ten years of experience in carbon management and business development. Kate leads commercial development for Kineticor and is also responsible for ESG initiatives.

Kate comes from a background in consulting as a former member of EY’s Climate & Sustainability practice and ICF International’s Energy & Carbon Markets team. Her experience focused on the development of corporate carbon strategy and risk analysis, federal and provincial climate policy, and GHG emission reduction potential. 

Kate holds a Master of Science in Environmental Sustainability from the University of Edinburgh and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science from the University of Lethbridge.

Joe D’Angelo, CPA, CA, Controller

Joe is an experienced Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CA) who has been with Kineticor since its early startup days in 2014. Joe has played a pivotal role with the company, as he has been responsible for the creation, management, and oversight of the accounting and financial reporting department. Joe also provides leadership and management of a number of other corporate departments, and specializes in lean and efficient processes. In 2024, Joe was the recipient of CPA Alberta’s Early Achievement award, an award which recognizes CPAs in Alberta who have had their accounting designation for 10 years or less and have contributions or achievements worthy of recognition.

Prior to joining Kineticor, Joe worked with KPMG in Halifax and Calgary, where he specialized in both Audit and Financial Management Consulting.

Joe is a graduate of Acadia University, where he obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration specializing in accounting.
