Director, Business Development
Location: Calgary, Alberta
Position Type: Full-Time
Reporting to: Executive Vice President, Development & Operations
Purpose
Lead the development of large-scale gas-fired energy projects, ensuring successful project origination, integration, and execution. The role emphasizes commercial viability, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational strategies.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all phases of gas-fired project development, from origination to financial close.
- Work closely with finance, accounting, regulatory and engineering teams to ensure project viability.
- Maintain accountability for project commercial and economic outcomes.
- Support project financing processes.
- Lead multidisciplinary project teams, including internal staff and external consultants.
- Negotiate project agreements with vendors, contractors, and partners.
- Prepare and present business cases to senior management, investors, and stakeholders.
- Support project execution teams in transitioning projects to construction and operation.
- Demonstrate leadership in safety, integrity, and corporate responsibility.
Experience & Qualifications
- 10+ years of relevant work experience, with at least 3–5 years directly in gas-fired energy project development.
- Proven leadership ability and the capability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
- Experience developing power projects in Alberta including siting, interconnection, gas transport, and permitting processes.
- Experience with acquisitions, due diligence, financing, and battery technologies is an asset.
- Must have the ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with strong communication and teamworking skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or economics.
- MBA or advanced finance designation (CA, CMA, CFA) is considered an asset.
