Our leading project, the 900 MW Cascade Power Project, is approaching its Commercial Operation Date (COD). We are in search of a highly motivated and skilled individual to join our Cascade team and help maximize the value of Kineticor’s premier asset.

Position Summary:

The Portfolio Manager position at Cascade is pivotal for the success of the Cascade Power Project, tasked with managing its short-term optimization and supporting the ongoing success of the company. The role requires an extensive knowledge of the Alberta power, gas, and ancillary service markets. Moreover, the Portfolio Manager will aid in shaping Kineticor’s long-term fundamental views and strategies. Opportunities to explore wider business development prospects will also exist. This multifaceted role promises numerous opportunities for professional growth and career advancement within a small, nimble but growing company.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to Kineticor’s Head of Optimization and collaborating with external resources, the Portfolio Manager’s primary responsibilities include:

  • Continuously monitoring the Alberta power market to identify and capitalize on opportunities that enhance Cascade’s value.
    • Optimizing energy offers.
    • Trading ancillary service products.
    • Trading financial energy products.
  • Continuously monitoring market trends in Alberta and identify opportunities for refining trading and optimization strategies.
  • Develop and maintain models and tools to support portfolio optimization, risk management, settlement, and decision-making.
  • Track and report P&L on a daily and monthly basis.
  • Aid in the development & expansion of Kineticor’s fundamental models for both the power and carbon markets in Alberta.
  • Keep abreast of pending regulatory and market design changes.
  • Aid in the development and execution of Kineticor’s business development strategy.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Support Kineticor with other duties as required for ongoing success.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical skills, including proficiency in modeling and data analysis tools.
  • Proven track record optimizing power generation assets and trading power in Alberta.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Alberta energy markets, regulations, and trading dynamics.
  • Ability to make strategic decisions and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong ability to demonstrate teamwork and commitment to success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles and techniques, including hedging strategies and financial derivatives.
